How to Clean Baked on Grease from your Baking Sheets

My baking sheets have gotten pretty bad over the years. I bake a lot and I often just wipe down my baking sheets after I use them instead of giving them a good scrubbing like I should. Can anyone relate?

I have to admit that it’s kind of embarrassing to bring a baking sheet with cooked on grease on it to a party. I would usually cover it with aluminum foil to cover up my lazy habit of not cleaning it well when I should have.

But no longer! I discovered not too long ago that cream of tartar is a great abrasive that doesn’t scratch, so I decided to see what it would do on my baking sheets. It worked pretty well, but there were some areas, like in the corners, that needed a little more help.

I often use lemon essential oil to remove grease, so I figured it would work on baked-on grease too. It certainly did.

Now, keep in mind that this is not a miracle cleaning method. You do have to put in some elbow grease and time, but it pays off because now you’ll have nice clean baking sheets without scratches.

Be sure to use a nylon scrubbie and My Favorite Scraper because these are powerful tools that won’t scratch. We sell all of these things in our store.

You’ll Need:

Cream of Tartar
Lemon Essential Oil
Nylon Dish Scrubbie
My Favorite Scraper

Sprinkle some cream of tartar onto your baking sheet, then drip some lemon essential oil where the grease is thicker. Add just enough water to make a paste when you start scrubbing.

Start scrubbing. It takes some elbow grease, but the abrasiveness of the cream of tartar and the solvent powers of the lemon essential oil definitely make it easier. If you have some tough spots, pull out your My Favorite Scraper.

Don’t give up. It takes some time, but the results are totally worth it.
